The 2024/25 Berks & Bucks County FA Women’s Senior Cup is split evenly between Berkshire and Buckinghamshire sides following Sunday’s quarter-final ties.
Penalty shoot-out specialists Reading FC Women are in the final four. The Royals – now operating in Tier 5 of the women’s football period – earned a very creditable goalless draw at FAWNL Division 1 South West side Abingdon United. Having advanced through three ties in the County Cup, League Cup and FA Cup via shoot-outs this season the Royals made it four from four victories on penalties. Cherry Preisner saved Abingdon’s second penalty and Zuzanna Gajzler scored the fifth of five successful Reading kicks to eliminate the 2023 finalists.
Maidenhead United went through at the end of ninety minutes at hitherto undefeated Tier 6 outfit Beaconsfield Town. United led from the opening minute when Simone O’Brien opened the scoring (pictured by Darren Woolley) and we’re two ahead by the break thanks to Izzy Stockton. Tia Johnson and Nat Cowell had the game won by the hour mark and a late Beaconsfield own goal topped off a convincing result for Ed Jackson-Norris’s in-form Magpies.
There was a ‘Cupset’ at the Racecourse as SRWFL Premier side Ascot United were surprisingly defeated by Newport Pagnell Town, the Tier 6 side winning through courtesy of a second half goal.
The final berth in the semi-final draw was taken by FAWNL Division 1 South East outfit Chesham United. The Generals recorded a resounding 4-1 victory at French School Meadow against a Penn & Tylers side who had surprisingly defeated Tier 3 outfit and serial senior cup winners MK Dons in the previous round.
