Emma Harries hits out at lack of support for Reading FC Women

One of Reading FC Women’s star players, Emma Harries, has hit out at Reading FC for its lack of support following the Royals final day relegation from the FA WSL.

Reading lost Chelsea, a team with the full backing of its Men’s Premier League club who also claimed the title with a 3-0 win at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

As has been widely reported, Reading FC Women were the only FA Women’s Super League club this season without the backing of a Premier League side – in 2023/24 there will be two in Leicester City and promoted Bristol City.

Harries, who thanked the fans in her post, wrote on Instagram: “It is heartbreaking that our season has ended in the way it has. It hurts and will continue to hurt. The staff and players gave everything to stay in the league and have done so for so many years without sufficient backing, that is something everyone involved should be proud of.

“Thank you to the fans, you were incredible all season.”

Harries played 16 times in the FA WSL last season after coming back from injury and was regularly named captain in the absence of Emma Mukandi.

The forward made her Reading debut in in 2020 and has made over 50 appearances for the Royals after coming through Reading’s Academy, which she joined at the age of 8.
