It was certainly coming, but whether it would happen prior to Saturday’s fixtures or after was another matter.
The Vanarama National League has suspended competition in it’s North and South Division’s and released a short statement: “Following the review of the feedback from Clubs in connection to the recent Clubs meeting, a Board meeting this morning decided to halt the participation in the North/South Divisions for a two-week period, effective immediately.
“As a result, tomorrow’s games are formally postponed.”
Slough Town were one of the clubs in the South Division who had said they would not play Saturday’s fixture at Eastbourne Borough which, in their own statement released on Thursday, said it would be ‘meaningless’ and ‘incur uneccesary costs’ if the season was then suspended.
The full Slough statement from Thursday is here, a further confirmation of Saturday’s suspension is here.
Other National League South clubs who made their position clear include Concord Rangers who said they would not compete in further games until there was clearer information on testing and financial support, and Havant & Waterlooville who’s directors put the club in to a 10-day isolation period on Thursday.
The news of the suspension also affects Hungerford Town who were due to host Welling United at Bulpit Lane, but Maidenhead United, in the division above are still due to travel to Woking.
