A week of uncertainty at Hungerford Town yielded a terrific result as Ian Herring’s side completed the double over Berkshire rivals Slough Town with a 2-0 win at Arbour Park.
The Crusaders are battling to avoid the drop from the Vanarama National League South while Slough are fighting for a play off place at the opposite end of the table.
Herring’s side faced up to an announcement of budget cuts at Bulpit Lane during the week – detailed here in the Newbury Weekly News – and would have been underdogs going in to the game on Saturday.
Hungerford won the previous meeting between the two sides 1-0 thanks to a James Constable strike, this time it was Oliver Artwell who got the ball rolling with the opening goal in the first half and James Rusby made it 2-0 in the second.
Crusaders boss Ian Herring had begun the day recording a series of videos on social media to take supporters behind the scenes, he certainly couldn’t have written a better script!

In the National League, Maidenhead United dropped in to the relegation zone after a 1-0 defeat at home to Boreham Wood and Chesterfield’s 2-1 win at bottom of the table Chorley.
The defeat means it’s four games without a point since the impressive win at Solihull Moors with play off chasing Stockport County up next.
