Reading City beaten in Floodlit Cup opener

Citizens fall at the first hurdle

Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division side Reading City went out at the first hurdle in Monday nights Banbury Litho Floodlit Cup tie at Scours Lane.

The Citizens were beaten 3-1 by Division One East Penn & Tylers Green with a double from Dean Allen and one from Thomas Harrison Stables enough to seal progress for the Buckinghamshire side.

City were 2-0 down on 19 minutes but McKoy Palmer pulled one back on the half hour mark.

Simon Johnson’s side pressed in the second half but on 77 minutes Gareth Williams side made it 3-1.

Reading lost their unbeaten start to the league season seven days ago at Flackwell Heath but bounced back on Saturday with a 2-2 draw at Royal Wootton Bassett Town.

On Saturday, attention turns to the FA Vase when the blues head through West Berkshire to face Abingdon United.
