Ascot United have had plenty of reasons to be cheerful this season but the news youngster James Richardson has made the final 18 of the English Schools squad probably just about tops it.

The Yellamen were awarded the Hellenic League’s team of the month award for December and saw star striker Nathan Minhas make the step up to the National League South with Billericay Town.

Now, Richardson – who has played five times in the Hellenic Premier this season, is one of 18 youngsters from around the country to make the English Schools squad for 2019 season.

The announcement was made on Thursday morning following a final trial game on Saturday against an RAF side in which Richardson scored the winning goal in a 2-1 win.

The final squad, posted on the English Schools website here, includes players from Manchester, Cornwall, Humberside and Surrey.

The squad will play their first official friendly against Australia Schoolboys at Stafford Town on Saturday 26th January.

The news of course means Richardson will join the Football in Bracknell list of Hellenic League players with international honours.
