In a rare case of points being awarded seeming like an all round fair compromise both promotion chasing sides in Southern Region Women’s League Division 1 have benefited from Wycombe Wanderers inability to fulfil fixtures.
Ascot United Ladies and New Milton Town Ladies are separated by four points at the top of the division and saw their recent scheduled ties with Wycombe Wanderers postponed.
Often when a side is awarded the points following a postponed or cancelled match it can skew a title or relegation race by giving points to a side that haven’t played a game – but in this case – and happily it’s the two sides chasing promotion that have benefited.
The only down side as far as we can see is that any rearrangement would have been a last game of the season for Ascot, but as it is they currently sit top of the table by four points and are at least guaranteed runners up spot.
New Milton’s final two games are both away at Fleet Town and Barton Rovers.
Pleasingly for Wycombe and the league itself, the Bucks side did fulfil their last fixture at Barton Rovers.
