Saturday afternoon’s East Berkshire derby at Lowther Road was a terrific advert for Hellenic League football as home side Wokingham & Emmbrook beat previously unbeaten Woodley United in front of 135 spectators.
Wokingham started strongest in front of the watching Hellenic League chairman and led 2-0 through Ben Broadhurst and Jack Gibbs after 10 minutes.
United hitman Charlie Oakley pulled one back on 20 minutes but an own goal restored the two goal lead for Wokingham.
Greg Beckett made it 3-2 before the break from the penalty spot after Oakley was brought down but it was the Sumas who went in happier.
Oakley did score again in the second half but Jack Gibbs had the final word from the penalty spot after Sam Lawrence was brought down to hand Woodley their first defeat in the Hellenic League Division 1 East this season.

Elsewhere in Division 1 East, AFC Aldermaston have hit a bit of a sticky patch and were beaten 3-1 at home by Chinnor while Freddie Barron got the goal that gave Finchampstead a terrific 1-0 win at Rayners Lane.

It was one to forget for Bracknell Town who travelled to Tuffley Rovers without captain Carl Davies and goalkeeper Chris Grace – both through suspension.
Rovers led 2-0 at half time with a late consolation for Bracknell from Callum Whitty to see the game finish 2-1 to the home side.
Ascot United had a terrific win away at Thatcham Town winning 2-1 courtesy of goals from Richard Bennett and James Goodey – the Yellamen are on the road in the FA Vase next weekend.

And finally..
Man of the day is surely Berks County FC goalkeeper Lewis Grant who scored a 90th minute equaliser for the Swords in their Thames Valley Premier Division tie at Highmoor Ibis Reserves to earn a point in a 1-1 draw.
