Two former Bracknell Town stars have been appointed as co-managers of Combined Counties Premier Division side Godalming Town.

Gavin Smith and Jon Palmer have taken over at Wey Court after G’s parted company with Simon Funnell and his management team following a poor start to the season that see’s Godalming sit 21st of 22 teams in the table.

Smith and Palmer follow in the footsteps of current Slough Town bosses Neil Baker and Jon Underwood who cut their teeth as a managerial duo at the Surrey side before moving on to the Rebels who they have since led back to the Evo Stik Premier Division.

Both Smith and Palmer played for Bracknell under former Farnborough boss Alan Taylor alongside Underwood and Baker and both were still playing last season – Smith making several key contributions to Bracknell’s second place Hellenic Premier Division finish after rejoining the club before Christmas.

Underwood tweeted his delight at the pairs appointment saying: ‘Great decision by Godalming to give the job to Jon Palmer & Gav Smith! Two top lads who know their stuff. I’ve no doubt they will do well!’
