Thatcham Town’s season hasn’t quite gone to plan in the Southern League Division One South with the West Berkshire side in the relegation zone.
The Kingfishers finished eighth in the Isthmian League South Central Division One and looked well placed to mount a play-off challenge this season, that is until the FA moved the club sideways into the Southern League.
The club appealed with chairman Paul Ayres saying at the time the move would have ‘serious negative consequences for us’. A place in the Southern League was previously the club’s undoing back in 2014 when it took voluntary demotion to the Hellenic League.
The geography and finance is simple, regular trips from West Berkshire up the M4 around London are cheaper and easier – not to mention a more amenable player base to choose from – in the Isthmian League than away days every other week to Devon and Cornwall.
Food review: ‘What they do, they do well’ Wandering Tractor at Thatcham Town

Manager Yashwa Romeo has moved to arrest a slide that has seen just two wins in the last 10 games with the addition of Ben Anderson from Woodley United on dual registration while it is understood the Blues have taken a trio of players on loan from Vanarama National League Maidenhead United – including former striker Christian Johnson, though we await confirmation from the club.
Thatcham were beaten 2-1 at Shaftsbury on their last game on 28th December and are due to head to Mousehole in Cornwall on Saturday before a double-header of home ties on Tuesday 14th January (Bideford) and Saturday 18th (Falmouth Town).
