Bracknell Town boss Bobby Wilkinson has finally gotten his man according to reports coming out of Marlow Football Club.
Goalkeeper Simon Grant has reportedly decided to end his eight-year spell at the Buckinghamshire side to join the Isthmian League South Central Division One champions.
Writing on Marlow’s social media page, manager Mark Bartley said: “Granty has been a fantastic servant for the club and for me he is, and has been for the last few seasons, the best goalkeeper in the league. Whilst it is undoubtedly a big loss for us, with what he brings on and off the pitch, he goes with my absolute blessing and best wishes for the future.”
Grant had been the subject of interest from Bracknell last summer but committed himself to Marlow for another season. According to the Slough Express at the time: “Simon Grant has committed himself to Marlow FC for another season, much to Mark Bartley’s delight, as the goalkeeper was announced to have rejected a ‘better financial package’ from rivals Bracknell Town.”
While Bracknell won the league with 96 points, Marlow narrowly missed out on the play-offs with Hanwell Town ultimately beating Chertsey Town 3-2 in the final after extra time.
The blues though were one of only two sides to beat Bracknell last season, scoring what proved to be a rare goal against the Robins while Grant kept a clean sheet against a side that amassed 90 league goals.
For Bracknell, it remains to be seen who goes in at number one at the start of the season with Michael Eacott currently in possession behind one of the meanest defences in the country while Mark Scott has already confirmed his departure from the club.
