Wokingham & Emmbrook will be without one of their stalwarts of the last decade after midfielder Elliott Rushforth announced his departure.
The Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division North side have endured a tough start to the season following promotion from step 6 and the departure of bosses Dan Bateman and Michael Eggleston on the eve of the season.
Rushforth’s announcement comes after over 250 games for the Sumas and 80 goals.
Writing on social media he said: “Made the difficult decision today to leave Wokingham & Emmbrook after a great 10 years. Got some amazing memories and met some top people. I’d like to wish everyone at the club all the best for the season and beyond. Sumas!”

New manager Elliott Whitehouse has already made a number of new signing including wingers Allen Bossman and Harry Pearson and his side showed some positive signs in a 2-1 defeat to Ascot United.
Rushforth’s former manager Dan Bateman paid tribute to the midfielders era at the club: “Wishing you the best of luck for the future mate. You’ve been a key part of the Sumas for a long time and I appreciate everything you done for me personally. A pleasure to manage with 272 appearances and 80 goals for the club is nothing short of superb!”
As well as over two centuries of appearances, Rushforth was part of the 2014/15 Hellenic League Division One East title winning side as well as multiple Reading Senior Cup’s at the Madejski Stadium.
It also means that for one final time, we’re able to use Elliott’s favourite photo we have of him!
