Maidenhead United confirmed their seventh signing of the summer over the weekend by announcing that Jake Cassidy has joined the club.

The striker joins the Magpies from Hartlepool United, but has most recently enjoyed two loan spells at Maidstone in which he scored twice in 23 appearances.

At the age of 26, Cassidy already has good knowledge of professional football, as well as international experience for the Welsh under 19 and under 21 sides. A five-year stint at Wolverhampton Wanderers saw loan spells at Tranmere Rovers, Southend United and Notts County in the Football League.

Standing at a height of 6’ 2”, the Welshman appears to be a replacement for Ryan Bird, who recently departed the club for Slough Town. Manager Alan Devonshire has traditionally favoured a more-direct playing style, so it is expected that his newest signing will fulfil the target man role.

In an interview with the club, Cassidy said that he “couldn’t wait” to get back to pre-season training after a “long off-season.”

“Thank you for having me,” said the striker in a message to supporters. “I’ll do all I can in every game, and hopefully we can have a successful season together.”
