Reading City have signed the experienced and versatile defender Damien Smith from Bracknell Town, the club have confirmed.

Damien Smith was an important player in and around Larges Lane last season as Bracknell won promotion to the Bostik League and played six times for City managers Rob Creech and Andy Findlay in the Robins development team last season.

The defender made five appearances for the Bracknell first team last season and made the bench 19 times – the previous season he played 17 times for the club in the Hellenic League.

Smith was on his third spell at Larges Lane and had also played for the likes of Fleet Town and Slough Town.

Speaking to Football in Bracknell in March about his time at Larges Lane, Smith said: “It’s been great to be back. My situation at Bracknell is the same now as it was at the start of the season. I’m a squad member and if selected then I give 110% every time.

“I have been able to get games for the development side which has been good for me to get minutes but also to help some of the younger players. If I can help any of them become better players by helping them in games but also passing my experience on.”

City have confirmed the additions of Rob Gerrard and Luke Hastings ahead of Saturday’s kick off. Reading travel to Shrivenham for their opening game.
