Binfield give Isthmian League leaders a scare in Cup semi-final

Binfield’s Velocity Trophy run came to an end on Tuesday night in Essex as Billericay Town advanced to the Final.

It wasn’t without a scare for the hosts though with Tyler D’Cruz opening the scoring for the Moles after just five minutes.

Billericay though are not top of the Step 3 Isthmian League Premier Division and eyeing promotion to the Vanarama National League South for nothing, and equalised on eight minutes through Moses Emmanuel.

Credit to the Moles though, their hosts, a division higher and with title aspirations on their mind, held the scores level until the 51st minute when De-Carrey Sheriff scored Ashley Nzala put the game in no doubt in the 69th.

There was a final goal from Charlie Panton in injury time to put the gloss on a 4-1 win, but as Binfield manager Andy Bullett said post-match “There’s plenty to be proud of.”

Binfield return to league action on Saturday and will aim to put some daylight between themselves and the South Central Division One relegation zone when they visit South Park.
