Binfield took a vital three points at relegation threatened Sutton Common Rovers on Friday night with Bermudan forward Rahzir Smith-Jones taking centre-stage.
The Moles have seen attacking departures of Kickie Dzimba and Mitch Parker this season and Smith-Jones has more than taken up the goalscoring mantle in recent weeks.
Three goals on Friday to add to three goals in the previous four games see’s the former QPR youngster top Binfield’s goalscoring charts with 14 – ten goals in his last 10 games.
Binfield are certainly enjoying a better season that 2023/24 when they looked dead certs for relegation before Ross Weatherstone led the great escape but can’t be complacent in attempting to seal another season of Step 4 football.
Two league defeats prior to this Sutton win had reduced the gap from the relegation zone to four points with Guernsey having two games in had – but that gap increases now and the Moles will hope to extend it further when they host bottom side Badshot Lea on Saturday.
At the other end of the table, Ascot United’s play-off hopes were dented by a 4-3 defeat at home to Horndean.
A Zackary Willett hat-trick had given the visitors a 3-2 lead after being 2-0 up, Dzimba and Anas Igozouln had levelled and an own goal then made it 3-3 before Jay Williams won it for Horndean with 15 minutes to play.
