Binfield and Ascot United met on Friday night at Hill Farm Lane, playing out an entertaining 3-2 win for the Yellas in the Isthmian League South Central Division One.
In his programme notes on Friday evening Ross Wetherstone mentioned that Binfield had 21 games and 63 points to play for. While the Moles ended the evening without picking up any points (it’s now 60 points available from 20 games) they’ll surely take a lot of confidence from running Ascot United very close.
After going a goal down, Binfield didn’t fold and made their way back into the game with goals from new signing Tyler D’Cruz and a Jack Matton strike from a corner. They couldn’t hold onto the lead and very late on an unfortunate own goal won it for Ascot.

Binfield are a side who have let in 9 once and 8 twice this season so a 3-2 loss is no disgrace. Weatherstone appears to be building a competitive side at The Iconic Stadium. Whether they can claw back a 13-point deficit on third from bottom Guernsey remains to be seen, but there’s a growing optimism that they will at least give it a good go!
As for their opponents Ascot United, they’ll be pleased that Liam Tack scored a brace on his debut (against his former club Binfield no less) and that new signing Ben Harris may help replace some of the goals they lost when Brendan Matthew left for Southall.
