Ascot United reach FA Vase semi final after penalty shootout drama

The Yellas are through

It took a late equaliser to send the game to penalties but Ascot United are in the semi finals of the 2022/23 FA Vase for the first time in the clubs history.

Hosts West Didsbury & Chorlton led after just 4 minutes and looked to be heading through with Ascot’s George Lock involved in a goal line clearance.

But with 11 minutes to go, Brendan Matthew did what Brendan Matthew does and slotted the ball home from Harry Grants cross.

The leveller sent the game to penalties with Wests holding their nerve for the first three while Ascot missed their third.

Wests missed the fourth and fifth strikes while Ascot scored theirs – Usman Lalustani netting the all important fifth – to send the Yellas through.

Details on the Semi Final draw here. Ascot will face either Congleton Town, Corshal Town or Newport Pagnell Town.

All Saturdays results are here.
