Bracknell Town saw off an early challenger in the opening stages of the Pitching In Isthmian League South Central Division One title race with a 1-0 win over second-placed Uxbridge at Bottom Meadow on Saturday.

It was a case of good news and bad for the Robins though, while striker Dave Tarpey scored his first league goal of the season, it was the injury to in-form Joe Grant that will undoubtedly be the talking point among supporters.

The former Ascot United attacker had begun the season in flying form, with three goals so far this season including a double in the derby win over Binfield.

Grant was stretchered off after 10 minutes but the long-serving Robin later tweeted: “Unfortunately yesterday didn’t go how I planned and I was stretchered off in the 10th minute. I can’t update you too much on the injury as an MRI is needed, but fingers crossed nothing too serious.”

Bracknell manager Bobby Wilkinson added after the game: “A fantastic positive result yesterday, three points.

“But my main priority right now is my striker Joe Grant. I want to make sure he receives the best treatment and is looked after. This boy is a fantastic striker, but most of all a fantastic person and I can’t wait to put him in my starting lineup again in the near future. He will come back stronger.”

Binfield FC

Isthmian League new-boys Binfield made it two wins in a row with a 3-0 win at Chalfont St Peter. The Moles saw a goal from center-back Joe Gater on the half hour followed up by an Ollie Harris penalty and Liam Tack rounded it off in the last 20 minutes.

The Moles are up to fourth after six games and are in good form over their last three games – though have another frustrating break of 10 days ahead before travelling to Ashford Town (Middlesex) on the 28th.

Thatcham Town

Finally, a tough day at the office to report for Thatcham Town who were beaten 2-0 at South Park. The Kingfishers gave a second debut to FA Vase winning striker Shane Cooper-Clark before he was replaced on the hour but goals from Melford Simpson and Ibrahim Jalloh did the damage for the home side.
