The Reading & District Sunday League kicked off but it wasn’t quite the football feast we all expected with a whole swathe of fixtures postponed – including all five Premier Division matches.
There were eight matches in total across the six division’s with South Reading and Caversham United sharing eight goals while newcomers William Twigg were beaten 5-3 by Mortimer – both in Division One; among the higher scoring games.
For Caversham, it was a case of a disappointing point having initially lead South Reading 3-0 courtesy of a Joe Hales double and Alex Jenkins the other before the home side roared back and lead 4-3 before Josh Hemphrey levelled with the last kick of the game.
For the Twigg, new members of the league after switching from the Bracknell & District Sunday League, they were on the end of a similar comeback having led Mortimer 3-0, they finished the game with a 5-3 defeat.
The two Premier Division games saw Englefield Eagles beat 116 Exiles 2-1 while Park Villa beat Arborfield 4-1.
Division Two saw wins for Burghfield Reserves (3-1) at Calcot Royals while Wayback Wanderers won 5-2 at home to Racing Club de Woko.
116 Exiles Reserves suffered the heaviest defeat of the afternoon, beaten 9-1 at home by Shinfield Rangers in Division Three while Give Back FC beat Thames Valley Railway 3-0 in the grounds of the Madejski Stadium.
