For Ascot United it was to little to late on Tuesday night as they were beaten 3-2 at home by Redhill in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division.

Coining the ‘red curse’, the clubs official match report highlighted the Yellamen’s struggles at home against teams playing in red with the defeat to Redhill being their fifth of the season.

Redhill took advantage in the first half with a 20th minute strike while it was 2-0 before the break and the Lobsters looked home and dry on 83 minutes when Joe Jarrett made it 3-0.

An evening that looked like ending in a damp squib for Jamie Tompkins men was given some hope when Harry Laflin headed home from Jonny Denton’s corner.

If a comeback looked unlikely, there was further hope when George Lock scored in the 93rd minute and Louis Bouwers had a chance to level things up – only to be penalised for a challenge in the box.

Elsewhere, it was back to back defeats for Maidenhead United in games against relegation rivals at home to Ebbsfleet United despite Jadyn Mundle Smith opening the scoring for the Magpies.

Ebbsfleet got one back on 17 minutes and then went on to score twice more in a 3-1 win, leaving the Magpies in 20th in the Vanarama National League and a point above the relegation zone.

Sandhurst Town reached the semi finals of the Esoteric Recordings Division One Challenge Cup with a convincing 5-2 win over Kensington & Ealing Borough at Bottom Meadow.

A double for Paddy Gardener and one each for Will Shaw, Haydon Richardson and Sam Green was enough to see Michael Herbert’s side through.

Finally, Hungerford Town were knocked out of the Berks & Bucks County FA Senior Cup 3-0 by a Wycombe Wanderers side that included five players that started on the bench for the Chairboys against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

There is one more midweek Berkshire fixture as Woodley United host Holyport on Wednesday night at the Rivermoor.
