In the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Division One Eversley & California suffered late heartbreak in their game at Ash United.

The Boars were 1-0 down to a first half goal going into the last 10 minutes when Enow Ojong burst down the wing sent a cross into the box that was met by Kai Francis. The striker’s bullet header levelled the scores and looked to have given Eversley a valuable point, but Ash struck once more in the final minutes of the game and consigned the Boars to their 12th defeat of the season.

Sandhurst Town returned to winning ways with a big home win over British Airways. The Fizzers took the lead midway through the first half when Luke Burrows smashed in a rebound after Thomas Cooper has seen his header saved. 5 minutes later Bradley Brown doubled the advantage when he latched on to a Jake Nicholls through ball and calmly finished for 2-0. Just after the hour mark Jamie Mitchell made it 3 when he intercepted a pass in the BA defence, raced forward and slotted home. Five minutes from time Luke Cox completed the scoring with his first goal for the club, scoring direct from a corner and leaving the final score a s 4-0 to Sandhurst.

Hellenic League

In the Hellenic League Division One East Wokingham & Emmbrook returned to winning ways on Saturday with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Abingdon Town.

The Sumas were ahead within 3 minutes when a Nick Bateman free kick from the edge of the box was headed home by striker Kylo Atkinson. Wokingham doubled their lead before the half hour mark when a Daniel Carter cross was turned in by Luke Scope, completing a good team move. In the second half Atkinson grabbed his second when he outpaced the Abbots’ defence and chipped the keeper, and 10 minutes from time substitute Dan Best completed the scoring making it 4-0 to Wokingham.

There was still time for Abingdon to have a player sent off in what was a tough afternoon for the visitors. The win sees the Sumas climb to 5th in the table, and into the thick of the promotion chase.

Chalvey Sports (October team of the month) faced the tough assignment of a trip to league leaders Risborough Rangers, a side who had not lost in their 12 previous league games. Despite being underdogs, it was the Stabmonks who took the lead on 19 minutes when Connor Shingleston finished off a nice move to give the visitors the lead on 19 minutes. Sadly, that was as good as it got for Chalvey as Risborough equalised 5 minutes later before going on to score two second half goals, leaving the final score 3-1 to the hosts.

At the Hithercroft, Wallingford Town entertained promotion chasing Abingdon United. Wally were looking to extend a run that has seen them go unbeaten in the league since the beginning of October and they got off to a good start when Ashley Searle gave them the lead on 17 minutes. Abingdon got back on terms just before the break and were able to secure all 3 points with a goal 10 minutes from time.

Langley endured a day to forget as they were heavily beaten at home by Long Crendon. The clubs were the top two in the Hellenic Division Two East last season, but it is Long Crendon who have settled better to life at Step 6. The visitors were 2-0 up by half time and added 3 further goals in the second half to give them a 5-0 win which sees them move into the top half of the table. Langley are currently 15th in the standings.

The other Hellenic Division One East game in Berkshire this weekend saw AFC Aldermaston play out a 0-0 draw with Thame Rangers. While there were no goals to report on the Atomics will at least be pleased to record their first clean sheet in the league this season. The point leaves Aldermaston in 11th in the table, 3 places and 3 points above their visitors.

Away from league action Woodley United travelled to Chalfont Wasps for a match in the Supplementary Cup. The Kestrels were playing their first game under new first team manager Jamie Williams and his reign got off to the best possible start with Ben Anderson giving Williams’ side the lead after just 40 seconds. The game remained at 1-0 until an inspired substitution saw Danny Blatchford score to double the advantage, just two minutes after his introduction. The game finished at 2-0 and Woodley will now travel to face AFC Aldermaston in the third round.
