It’s five wins from five for Maidenhead United, who beat EFL-side Stevenage at York Road on Tuesday evening.
The Magpies had beaten Hampton & Richmond over the weekend at the Beveree Stadium. Goals for Josh Kelly as well as new signings Jake Cassidy and Joseph Ellul secured a 3-2 victory for the visitors.
Both United and Stevenage made strong starts to the game, with Ellul doing well to prevent an opener for the visitors.
Danny Whitehall, who scored the only goal of last week’s friendly against Kuwait, continued to test the opposition defence. His rocket was fired just wide of the post with a quarter of an hour played, before Stevenage ‘keeper Paul Farman was forced to make a brilliant save to keep the scores level.
The formidable battle between the two sides continued into the second half, but it wasn’t long before the Magpies would take the lead. Scoring his third of the season, Whitehall would convert another set piece as his free kick flew into the top corner.
That would be the only goal of the game, as the Magpies performed well to keep out Stevenage’s efforts.
Maidenhead will play their final pre-season fixture this Friday, where they’ll face Wycombe Wanderers in the annual Friday night fixture between the two sides at York Road.
