It wasn’t a great afternoon on Saturday for Bracknell Town as they went down 7-2 to Ware in the Bostik League South Central Division 1.
Certainly, it’s been awhile since the Robins shipped that many, the last time Bracknell conceded seven or more was a 9-1 defeat to Ardley United at Larges Lane in November 2011.
As someone who was at that Ardley game, the recent result will almost certainly be a blip on what has been a steep upward curve for the club on and off the pitch since the start of the 2016/17 season.
In the grand scheme of things, the defeat made little difference to the top of the table. The Robins remain in the top five – manager Geoff Warner’s target for the season – particularly as leaders Marlow lost to 3-1 at home to Waltham Abbey while Hayes & Yeading United were in FA Trophy action.
Ashford Town (Middx) are the nearest challengers outside the play off spots and they beat Chalfont St Peter 2-0 while seventh placed Northwood were held to a 2-2 draw by Hanwell Town – though they still have a game in hand.
Down at the bottom it’s ‘as you were’. South Park remain 20th despite a decent 1-1 draw with Westfield while Egham Town, now managerless in 19th, were beaten 4-1 by Bedfont Sports.
