Holyport took a four point lead in the group stages of the Hellenic League Subsidiary Cup on Monday night with a 4-2 win at Woodley United.

Derek Sweetman’s side have played four of their six fixtures and sit above AFC Aldermaston who face Wokingham & Emmbrook on Tuesday night at Larges Lane.

Woodley are bottom of the four team group but if nothing else, the competition has provided an opportunity for Jon Laugharne’s side to give players minutes, something that has clearly benefited the Kestrels league form.

The groups for the competition are regional, the down side to that being that Aldermaston have faced Laugharne’s side four times already this season, while Woodley have played Holyport three times, the latest being watched by only 15 people.

Take a browse through our Woodley vs Wokingham & Emmbrook gallery from Peter Toft:

As for the game itself, Port led 2-1 at half time Toby Briggs equalising on 8 minutes for Woodley after a 5th minute opener and goals followed in the second half with the visitors taking a 3-1 lead and 4-2 lead. Leon Mannion got the Woodley goal while Fabian Driffill scored two along with Lee Ovens and Alan Akerman for Holyport.

The Hellenic League Subsidiary Cup group B table as it stands:

  1. Holyport (Pl) 4 (Pts) 10
  2. AFC Aldermaston (Pl) 4 (Pts) 6
  3. Wokingham & Emmbrook (Pl) 3 (Pts) 4
