The Bluefin Sports (UHL) Challenge Cup provided the main focus for Hellenic League Division One East clubs last weekend.
Wokingham & Emmbrook put in a fantastic performance to beat Step 5 opposition in the form of Reading City who made the short trip to Larges Lane.
The visitors had the best of the opening exchanges but were not able to capitalise and the Sumas made them pay on 28 minutes when Will Day got past the opposition full back and crossed the ball into the box for Ellis Day to score in the bottom corner. In the second half reading pressed for an equaliser but Wokingham held out to progress to the next round.
Another side facing Step 5 opposition were AFC Aldermaston who made the trip to Gloucestershire to face Fairford Town. Despite the difference in divisions, it was the Atom Men who took the lead on 11 minutes when Josh Blackwood got on the end of a long throw to make it 1-0.
Seven minutes later the visitors extended their lead as Phillip John scored his fifth goal in six games. In the second half Aldermaston were reduced to 9 men as Jamie Connor and Zach Tull both saw red for second bookable offences, but the first half goals were enough as the game finished 2-0.
Woodley and Holyport go out
Holyport did not have the same success in their trip to Hellenic Premier Division side Windsor. Port did have their chances, including a Kris Drake effort that came back off the woodwork, but they fell behind to a Jordan Ellis effort with an hour gone. The hosts doubled their advantage on 80 minutes as Victor Ocansy scored for a corner to resign Holyport to cup elimination.
Woodley United are also out after defeat away at Hellenic Division One West side Clanfield (85). Trailing 3-0 late on, Sam Guze gave the Kestrels hope when he headed home a Joseph Sissons cross, but it was not to be as Clanfield striker Callum Miller completed his hat-trick moments later to leave the final score 4-1 to the hosts.
The only game in the Hellenic League Division One East saw Wallingford Town lose away at fellow promotion hopefuls Burnham. The only goal of the game came midway through the second half and despite the hosts being reduced to 10 men, they held on for the win. The defeat was the first for Wally in the league this season.
Fizzers vs Boars
In the Combined Counties Division One there was a thrilling local derby as Sandhurst Town and Eversley & California met at Bottom Meadow. The first half was goalless with the Boars having the better of the game, but chances were few and far between for either side. That all changed in the second half as the Fizzers took the lead twice only for Eversley to peg them back on both occasions.
With both sides pushing for the win, Sandhurst were able to score two late goals to take home all the points in a very even affair. The Fizzers goals were scored by Charlie Oakley (x2), Luke Burrows and Greg Beckett, while Mo Davies and Josh Sapsed netted for the Boars.
