Windsor’s reputation as cup specialists shows no signs of going away after they beat Highworth Town 2-1 in an FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round replay on Wednesday night.

Supporters may have felt their chance of progression was gone after Highworth’s late late leveller in the original tie on Saturday, but that made no difference as Windsor advanced to the Preliminary Round.

A Jeevan Panesar penalty on 13 minutes and a Matthew Woods strike on 17 gave Mick Woodham’s side a 2-0 lead with Ashley Edenborough pulling one back for the home side from the penalty spot on 48 minutes.

Woodham’s sides reputation as cup specialists is built on a strong run to the Quarter Finals of last seasons FA Vase competition. The Stag Meadow side were often underdogs going in to matches and that was again the case on Wednesday against Highworth who were promoted from the Hellenic League to the Southern League over the summer.

As it is, Windsor’s prize fund is better off by £2,250 and Woodham’s men now face a trip to Cirencester Town in the Preliminary Round. The draw for that is here.

In the other FA Cup replay featuring a Berkshire side, Sandhurst Town had a long journey home from the New Forest after a 5-1 defeat at Lymington Town. Callum Samuel scored for the Fizzers and Lymington go on to host Frimley Green at home.
