Woodley United’s chances of silverware this season are far from over but their impressive run to in the County Cup is after they were beaten 2-0 at Thatcham Town in the Quarter Finals at Waterside Park on Monday night.
The Kestrels still have the Floodlit Cup, Supplementary Cup and Reading Senior Cup to battle for but Thatcham proved a step to far after wins over Beaconsfield Town and Abingdon United in the previous rounds.
Woodley also have the small matter of a relegation battle to concentrate on and have eight league games left with which to extract themselves from the bottom four and trailed 1-0 to Gareth Thomas’ strike in the first half of the cup tie.
The Waterside Park club of course saw their long winning run ended at the weekend after Windsor drew 2-2 with the promotion chasers and they were quick to put that behind them when Ross Cook doubled the lead on 65 minutes and that’s how it stayed.
Kingfishers boss Danny Robinson was quick to praise the visitors who he said kept his side honest in a post match tweet.

Thatcham move on to their huge FA Vase Quarter Final away day on Saturday at Melksham Town while Woodley are next in action on Monday night against Windsor in the three times postponed Floodlit Cup fixture at Scours Lane.
