The Moles extended their winning start to the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division season with a battling 1-0 win at Royal Wootton Bassett Town writes Colin Byers for binfieldfc.com.
In blustery conditions, flowing football was never likely and chances were at a premium in the opening half, with the hosts coming closest midway through, forcing Garry Aulsberry into a good save at his near post. The Moles best chance came late in the half, with Liam Ferdinand flashing a shot across the face of goal after a good run.
Shortly after the break, the one moment of real quality came when Jamie Connor cut in from wide on the left and found the bottom corner with a super shot from 25 yards.
Sean Moore replaced Tom Williams to make a half hour Binfield debut and a couple of strong runs down the left forced the Bassett defence into last ditch blocks and on a quiet day for Liam Ferdinand, the Moles striker came closest to doubling Binfield’s lead getting goalside of the final defender on the left but seeing his shot blocked.
Late on Bassett forced the Moles back, but couldn’t find a way through, with a far post header just wide the closest to claiming a point.
Binfield: Aulsberry, White, Broome, Brown, Michael Walton, Connor, Knight (capt), Povey (Etienne 20 (Bateman 80)), Ferdinand, Scope, Williams (Moore 60).
