Windsor & Eton are the 2024/25 Combined Counties League Division One champions after Westside were held to a draw by Brook House.
A win for Westside would have extended the title race to a weekend encounter between them and Windsor where the chase for automatic promotion could have been settled on the pitch – but dropped points mean the Royalists were celebrating at full time on Wednesday night.
None more so than boss Matty Angell who has now enjoyed two promotions in two seasons in charge of the Stag Meadow side who began life at Step 7 in 2023.
Reflecting on the title win, Angell said: “It’s been an amazing experience and feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to manage this fantastic club and in my work I always talk about the importance of having a community!
“This club has one of the best communities I have ever been involved with. I’m extremely proud of the achievement and hats off to everyone that has played a part in the clubs first two years.”
It’s been a nervy few weeks for Angell’s side who looked like champions elect for much of the season having occupied top spot for the majority of it, but three defeats in the last four games had put the champagne on ice.
The champions have three games remaining this season:
- Saturday 12th April – Westside (A)
- Tuesday 15th April – PFC Victoria London (A)
- Saturday 19th April – Brook House (H)
