Thames Valley Premier League Maidenhead Town have announced details of a two-year groundshare that could see them promoted to Step 6 next season.
The men’s first team, who currently play at the famous Bisham Abbey, were formed in 2004 and applied for promotion this season but due to ground grading regulations – IE not currently playing at a suitable ground – are unlikely to get the nod.
A statement released by the club said: “The move is in line with the club’s desire to progress to the Non League System (Step 6) and our wish to build stronger relationships with both local clubs and businesses to support our growth.
“Our relationship with Bisham Abbey remains strong, with both our Reserve and Development teams remaining at the world-class venue for the seasons ahead. We wish to thank Laurie, Stacey and the team for their support in our plans and their commitment to continued support for the club.”
The club confirmed the Reserve and Development teams would continue to play at Bisham Abbey for the foreseeable future.
Burnham themselves are a Step 5 side eyeing the Combined Counties League play-offs having previously played as high as Step 3 as recently as 2015.
The 1878 Stadium was a winner of Football in Berkshire’s Matchday Experience award in 2023 and well regarded as a top venue for visiting supporters.
Maidenhead may well lift the Thames Valley Premier League title this season. Town have two games in hand over leaders and reigning champions Westwood Wanderers who are seven points ahead – the title may come down to the meeting of the two sides on 14th April.
