Introducing a brand new series, where we bring to you all the cliches and lingo associated with non-league football. We’ll throw it out to the ether to gather the thoughts of you, the Football in Berkshire readers, and round it off with the results and a little summary.
First up…the ‘business end of the season’.
According to English Through Football, the ‘business end of the season’ is ‘the time of year in the football world important issues such as becoming champions, winning trophies, getting relegated or qualifying for Europe* are all focused on.’
*clearly not relevant to our Berkshire sides unless they’re planning to start some sort of Berkshire Super Cup with twinned European towns (have we just invented a whole new competition here?)
When is it acceptable to start saying the ‘business end of the season?’
So we threw the question out into the Football in Berkshire ether to ask when is it acceptable to start using the phrase and here are the results below.
What are your thoughts on the phrase? Do you agree with the results?
