Lewis Hall: From Binfield to full England honours

Will May

Earlier this week, The Athletic suggested their might be a place for Berkshire-born Lewis Hall in the latest England squad.

Following an announcement on Thursday, interim manager Lee Carsley has made the Newcastle United defenders dreams come true with a first senior Three Lions call up.

Born in Slough, Hall made his first steps in the game with Binfield before rising through the ranks at Chelsea and subsequently earning a move to Newcastle – the club he and his family support.

Hall’s older brother Connor has himself made FA Cup headlines in recent years. The youngster impressed in several first team appearance for Chelsea two seasons ago, including a League Cup tie away at Manchester City watched by Football in Berkshire’s Dan Walkley.

In November 2022, Binfield revealed their own part in Hall’s rise to the top of football: “A little bit more history at the end of last week for one of our own as Lewis Hall was back in the Chelsea team in the Carabao Cup.

“Hall – a graduate of our famous Soccer School and younger brother of FA Cup hero Connor – made his first start for Premier League Chelsea in the Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester City.”

Hall is part of Carsley’s final England squads before Thomas Tuchel takes charge. The Three Lions face a trip to Greece on the 14th November and Ireland at Wembley on the 17th.

A defender by trade, Hall has been playing left back for Newcastle this season, currently a problem position for England.
