Cristina Sarmiento is up for a Berkshire Football Award in the category of Player of the Season (Female).
The nomination we received for the award said: “In football it sometimes feels like it’s the flashiest players, the goalscorers, the loudest shouter or the biggest poster on social media that get all the credit. There’s more to a footballer (or in this case, futsal player) than the glory. Cristina (Crissy), has been a part of Reading Royals and now Maidenhead United almost since its inception. This season, despite multiple injuries and personal setbacks, Crissy’s dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to making the team the best it could possibly be is unmatched. Her ability to pick up teammates, inject positivity into any game, and generally how hard she works week-in, week-out to better herself and her teammates is something I’ve never seen in anyone else during my playing career. As a goalkeeper she’s always developing, as well as supporting the other keepers who start ahead of her – I know that’s sadly not the norm for a lot of players. Perhaps this isn’t exactly what most nominations for player of the season could be, but if there was a category for a player who not only stands out on the court, but off it as well in terms of how they support others and put the team ahead of themselves, it would have Crissy’s name on it. I’m proud to know her, and to share the court with her.”
