Langley’s Billy Baxter is up for a Berkshire Football Award in the category of Volunteer of the Season.
The nomination we received for this award said: “Billy Baxter is a ray of sunshine, the heart and sole of Langley FC. Billy joined middle of the 22/23 season as he wanted to be involved in local football. Poor Mrs Baxter has found herself and her home filled of Langley shirts.
“Scrubbing the grass stains out, fixing broken kit, kit man, ball collector, ticket machine expert, Substitute manager, all things match day admin that takes time, effort and focus and much more. You’ll often find Billy in the bushes searching for lost balls. Billy has never once complained, taken on the role as Mr Motivator with his constant positive energy.
“Being a volunteer is tough, many hours and money are spent on making the football club run smoothly.
“In Billy’s day job he’s a nurse for the local hospital, after a long day working 12+ hours saving lives, he comes to football. He’s always the first one preparing and the last one to leave, cleaning changing rooms, preparing for the next game, finding lost balls. Honestly, I don’t know what we would do without Billy.”
