We’re strictly non-league, grassroots and women’s football at FiB…usually. However, a snippet of information just spuriously linked enough caught our eye.

Reading signed impressive centre back Tyler Bindon in the 2023/24 summer transfer window, the young American making his mark during his Carabao Cup debut game which saw the Royals edge out Millwall in the First Round with a 4-0 drubbing at The Den. An impressive feat on it’s own given they haven’t beaten the Lions since 2005.

Equally as impressive is the fact that Bindon comes from footballing pedigree…in the shape of his two time Olympian Mum, Jenny Bindon. Whilst originally from Illinois, she pulled on the grey jersey for New Zealand 77 times spanning a decade that included appearances at the 2007 Women’s World Cup, 2008 Olympics in China and the 2012 London Olympics. Goal difference, on Jenny’s part, being the thing that secured their spot at London.

What’s this got to do with Berkshire you say? Well, Reading Women will be privy to Jenny’s expertise when they face London City Lionesses this season, their first Championship one in nine years, as she joined the coaching team at the fellow league side for the 2023/24 season.
