The Reading City Chinese selection box is real

It was a joke. Well it started as a joke.

Now though, one of the weeks most entertaining hoaxes looks set to come true with Reading City chairman Martin Laws taking on the challenge of creating the mouth watering Chinese selection box that’s done the rounds on social media this week.

Football in Berkshire ‘sources’ suggest City will be producing the boxes for hungry supporters ahead of the visit of North Greenford United in the Combined Counties League on Saturday.

Plus, well, they’ve announced it on their website: “What started out as a wind-up has seen us become a viral sensation this week.

“You’ve probably seen this week that our matchday cuisine has been a hit, and for just £12.99 you can purchase one of our famous Chinese selection boxes, we’d suggest that you arrive early to avoid disappointment.”

So while the Cityzens will do their best to serve fans expecting culinary delights at The Rivermoor, there’s very little any of us can do for anyone replying to the original hoax tweet expecting similar food at Reading FC’s Select Car Leasing Madejski Stadium.

For absolute clarity, @footyscran is not a hoax account and worth a follow, the RCFC food tweet has given us all a good chuckle this week and may well end up being financially advantageous to Reading City. We’d also like to clarify Hungerford Town’s fantastic looking burger and Four For A Score promotion is very much real!
