Ex-Arsenal midfielder Ian Selley is new Chertsey Town boss

Former Sandhurst Town manager Ian Selley has been appointed boss of Isthmian League Chertsey Town.

The Chertsey born former Arsenal midfielder Selley was in charge of Sandhurst between September 2020 and March 2021, leading the Combined Counties League club to a turnaround in form after a poor start to the season.

The new Chertsey boss is a former European Cup Winner’s Cup winner with Arsenal, starting the Gunners 1994 victory over Italian side Parma

Chertsey were left managerless after their FA Vase winning captain Kevin Maclaren departed the Alwyns Lane hotseat in the aftermath of the abandoned Curfews vs Bracknell Town fixture on Tuesday night.

Maclaren’s departure was confirmed the following day after both clubs released statements following the 83rd minute curtailment of the fixture that Bracknell lead 3-0.

Selley rejoins Chertsey where he was previously a player, with the Curfews in eighth in the South Central Division with three wins and three draws from their opening six fixtures.

The club enjoyed a great run to the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, their run only halted by National League Southend United.
