Positive news this week that Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division side Ascot United have been given permission to open their tea bar for matches at the Racecourse Ground.
The Yellamen have been granted approval by the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead Council who oversee the area the club sits in.
It’s an odd headline for Football in Berkshire to have to write, but a few miles down the road, Binfield have been refused permission by West Berkshire Council who decide such matters for clubs as part of an outsourcing of Safety Advisory Group (SAG) recommendations from Bracknell Forest Council and Wokingham Borough Council.
Football in Berkshire launched a petition this week to get West Berkshire Council to change it’s stance, with clubs around the country being given permission – you can sign the petition here.
Clubs are currently unable to open bars as most could not satisfy Government social distancing rules, but an outside tea bar being able to open would at least allow clubs a small but crucial amount of revenue that will help them through the pandemic.
