2019/20 women’s football stats reinstated

Following a recent meeting of the FA Women’s Football Board, the FA have outlined a number of adjustments to the original decision to null and void the 2019/20 season following the Covid-19 outbreak.

A number of team sanctions have been put in place as it was believed that some leagues were at risk of running short of clubs for the new season, the FA commenting that: “they may have finished the 2019/20 season significantly below the standard number of teams which, in some cases, was likely to impact upon, and compromise, their ability to run a viable competition for the 2020/21 season.”

Tiers 3-6 leagues were granted permission to apply for more teams, based on the following figures.

  • Any 12-team division which is running at nine or less teams
  • Any 10-team division which is running at seven or less teams

With regards to Berkshire clubs, no teams have seen any movement as a result of this decision.

The decision still stands that there will be no promotion or relegation between Tiers 2 and 3, with no effect on 7th place Maidenhead United.

Teams will however undoubtedly be glad the hard work and efforts of their players will be recognised rather than expunged with the FA stating, “following thorough consideration, the FA Women’s Football Board has made a decision to allow all match statistics from the 2019/20 season to remain in place, despite having to bring the respective campaigns to an early close.”
