Ex Ascot United youngster headed for US scholarship

Southern League Division One South side Basingstoke Town have confirmed that young midfielder Harrison Cliff is headed to the USA to take up a scholarship at Cal Poly Ponoma University in California.

Cliff, a former Allied Counties Youth League player at Ascot United, joined Basingstoke in the summer after an impressive 2018/19 season for the Yellamen where he made 15 appearances for the youth team scoring five goals.

He joined Basingstoke last summer, and made his mark on the Hampshire sides first team – his debut year at step 4. Speaking to the clubs official website, manager Dan Brownlie said: “In watching Harrison play, you’d be forgiven for forgetting his young age. He’s a talented boy, there’s no question about that; but it’s his work rate, endeavour and, above all else, attitude that will no doubt serve him well in this game.”

In the same interview, speaking about his season with the Southern League side, Cliff said: “In truth, I loved every second of it. The highs and the lows. I learned so much from playing at Basingstoke Town, which as an 18-year old aspiring footballer, is priceless. I remember being told about that the fan base at Basingstoke Town was huge, but I took it with a pinch of salt if I’m completely honest. But to experience the passion of the fans is incredible!”

Football in Berkshire would like to wish Harrison all the best for the future.
