Reading Football Club will return to Berks & Bucks Cup action for the first time in decades, the County FA have confirmed.

The Royals have been notable absentees from County competition along with fellow EFL League side Wycombe Wanderers for many years but have entered the 2018/19 competition.

The Senior Cup was revamped last summer to include clubs from step 5 of the English Football Pyramid, meaning the likes of Binfield, Bracknell Town and Ascot United were included.

This led to some glamour ties in East Berkshire that saw Bracknell face National League South side Hungerford Town and then Southern League Premier Division side Slough Town at Larges Lane.

The first round draw for the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup took place at midday on Friday and is in full here. Reading are expected to join in the Second Round along with long time competitors MK Dons.

In April, Football in Bracknell spoke to MK Dons under 23s head coach Eduardo Rubio about the competition and being the only professional side to take part.

He said: “MK Dons is proud to have, once again, taken part in this season’s competition. It has been enjoyable and has provided us with an opportunity to visit new teams and venues.

“We have been made to feel extremely welcome by all the clubs we have visited and the matches have always proven to be very competitive.”
