Ascot United will join Windsor on the trip down to Gloucestershire for their 2018/19 Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division opener.
The Yellamen will visit relegated Southern League side Bishops’ Cleeve on Saturday 4th August for what is, at least on paper a tough opener.
Ascot have made some impressive signings in pre season with new manager Jamie Tompkins making the most of his assistants contacts at Maidenhead United.
The club have a decent array of attacking talent and have kept hold of the likes of captain Louis Bouwers and full back George Lock.
Having seen attacker Jean-Claude Etienne on a number of occasions, if the coaching staff can get the best out of him then they have a strong, fearsome striker on their hands – not to mention Nathan Minhas and the impressive goalkeeper Lee Allen.
Ascot had a bit of a scare last season, a slow start suggesting a season battling relegation but then manager Neil Richards got the club to safety and you would expect a stronger start this season.
That said, our friends at Severn Sport have suggested Cleeve are Gloucestershire’s best hope of a Hellenic League title challenge this season – and as mentioned elsewhere, a long trip down the M4 isn’t exactly ideal on the opening day.
