When Bracknell Town’s Bostik League Bostik League South Central Division 1 fixtures were released last week you may or may not have noticed a serious lack of festive fixtures.
Bracknell will play just once over Christmas and New Year with a January 1st tie at Larges Lane against Westfield, the nearest ties either side are the 22nd December (FC Romania away) and 5th January (Chipstead away).
The Bostik League have moved to explain why this is the case – though it is worth mentioning the Robins only played once during the same period in the Hellenic League last season.
A statement on the leagues website reads: “As you will undoubtedly have noticed when the fixtures were released last week, we have a far slimmer festive programme to look forward to than usual. A number of you have sent messages via social media or email asking why, so we thought we’d explain.
“At the end of last year a number of clubs suggested that the festive programme was a little overloaded. Accordingly we asked at the League mid-season meeting- last January- whether any of them would like fewer fixtures over the following Christmas period, and many got in touch to say that they would appreciate this, allowing players, staff and supporters to spend more time with their families and incur less expense.”
That all sounds pretty reasonable to us. Bracknell get their 2018/19 league campaign underway on Saturday 11th August at home to Waltham Abbey and then play Molesey away and FC Romania at home on the following Bank Holiday Weekend. The Robins full fixtures are here.
