On Wednesday afternoon former Woodley United and Bracknell Town winger Sam Barratt represented his county, starting the International Challenge Trophy Final against Slovakia.

Barratt played 45 minutes of the tie and had a couple of strikes on goal but it was ultimately a 4-0 defeat for the Three Lions.

From starting out at Woodley to making his senior Hellenic League debut with Bracknell Town aged 16, watching Barratt’s rise to National League regular with Maidenhead United and trials with Bristol Rovers and Crystal Palace has been a pleasure and he was supported as usual in Slovakia by Pete and Cathy, his mum and dad.

We couldn’t let this piece go by though without an image from his debut season with Bracknell – here taking a trademark long throw that Coventry City boss Mark Robins described as ‘further than I can kick it’.
