Maidenhead United youngster Sam Barratt is out in Slovakia preparing for his second big game in a week that saw him start the Magpies FA Cup first round tie at League 2 side Coventry City.
Barratt – the former Woodley United and Bracknell Town winger – jetted out to Eastern Europe with the rest of the England C squad this week ahead of Wednesday’s International Challenge Trophy (ICT) Final against the Slovakian under 21 side (ko 4pm).
The Magpies young star drew plenty of pre match intrigue from Coventry’s local paper the Telegraph who ran a full interview with the 22-year-old who revealed he was picked up straight from the Ricoh Arena on Sunday after the FA Cup tie.
He said: “I have been called up to the 16-man England C squad and am being picked up directly from the Ricoh Arena after the match top go to a hotel to stay overnight with the squad before flying out to Slovakia on Monday morning.
“So it’s a big weekend for me and I can’t wait. It’s the international Challenge Trophy Final on the Wednesday against Slovakia.”
