AFC Aldermaston face Woodley United plus Division 1 preview

After several cup matches last weekend, it’s a return to league action in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division One East with the majority of our East Berks sides at home.

Only Woodley United are away and that is in a local derby with new boys AFC Aldermaston who have made a promising start to life in the division.

United though find themselves mid table with six points but they have only played twice so their 100% record suggests they will start as favourites but Aldermaston have won both their home league matches so don’t rule them out.

Finchampstead – fresh from a good 4-0 BBFA County Intermediate Cup win over Ascot United Development last weekend – look for their second league win when they host Chalfont Wasps.

It’s been a slow start for Finch who are now starting to find their feet having returned home last weekend with all prior matches played away from the Memorial Ground because of cricket.

Sandhurst Town host basement side Wantage Town Reserves and with everyone beating Wantage comfortably, you would be hard pressed to find someone backing against the Fizzers tomorrow.

Having exited the FA Vase losing 3-0 to Combined Counties League Premier Division basement side Bedfont & Feltham, it’s a welcome return to league action.

Lastly – and by no means least – Wokingham & Emmbrook have a tough task as they host third placed Bicester Town who were runners-up in the division last season.

Bicester have won three of their four league matches so far and their only defeat was a narrow loss to leaders Headington Amateurs whilst Clive McNelly’s side suffered a 4-0 loss at Binfield Reserves last Saturday in the BBFA County Intermediate Cup so they will be keen to bounce back.
