Combined Counties League Premier Division North Windsor & Eton have announced the departure of Matt Angell and moved quickly to appoint a successor.
The move was announced on the club’s social media channels on Wednesday afternoon with an announcement of his replacement shortly after.
Angell led Windsor to promotion out of the Thames Valley Premier League in 2024 following the club’s formation the previous summer and then won the Combined Counties League Division One title last season to put the club back at Step 5, leading to a nomination for Manager of the Season at the Berkshire Football Awards.
A statement released by chairman Mark Cooper said: “When Matt was appointed at the formation of our club two years ago, he faced the daunting challenge of assembling a squad just one month before the season began – with the clear objective of securing promotion. Not only did he achieve that, but he went on to lead us to the CCL Division One title the very next season. Matt has been an outstanding leader and figurehead for this club, and his presence will be missed. He will always be welcomed back with open arms.”
Windsor & Eton are currently fifth in the division after seven games and have moved to promote from within in the shape of Assistant Manager Rob Webb, undoubtedly to mitigate any upheaval within the playing staff.
Webb had been Angell’s assistant since the club began, with the new boss saying: “It’s a real honour to be given the chance to manage Windsor & Eton FC. Having been part of this club since its formation, I know how special it is and what it means to our players, staff and supporters. I’m excited to build on the progress we’ve already made and to continue driving this team forward together.”
In further news, former Sandhurst Town boss Adam Barnard will step up to the role of Assistant Manager having joined the club in the summer.
Webb’s first game in charge as manager will be Saturday’s home tie with Harefield United in the Premier Division North.
