Reading City say farewell to Michael Butcher

The Cityzens have begun the search for a new assistant manager

Combined Counties League side Reading City are bidding farewell to Player / Assistant Manager Michael Butcher after three seasons.

A statement shared by the club said: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Michael ‘Butch’ Butcher will be departing the Rivermoor to take up a new opportunity.”

‘Butch’ had been a crucial part of Simon Johnson’s backroom staff and was also in charge of the club’s youth team partnership with JMA Reading FC that saw the young side make several great runs in the FA Youth Cup.

Writing on Twitter, Butcher – who is leaving to take up a new opportunity, said: “Some of the very best. Got me back playing and loving the game at its purest. We went through a lot and came so far in those 3 years. Incredibly proud & I know this club will continue to progress. Thank you to everyone associated with Reading City FC.”

The Cityzens are now advertising for a new Assistant Manager to join Johnson and anyone interested should email a CV and Covering Letter to Simonjohnson1993@gmail.com
