Long-serving Reading FC Women boss Kelly Chambers is to depart the Select Car Leasing Stadium this summer.

The news follows the Royals relegation from the FA WSL at the end of last season and subsequent switch to part-time status for the team.

Chambers ends over a decade in charge of the Royals who she took on in 2012 and immediately got the club in to the second tier of Women’s football before guiding Reading into the FA WSL in 2016.

A statement released by the club said: “Reading Football Club can confirm that Kelly Chambers, Director of Women’s Football and First Team Manager of Reading FC Women, is set to depart the club.

“Following the club’s decision earlier this month to reset, rebuild that branch of the club on a part-time basis with a focus on establishing a more sustainable model for Reading FC Women for the future, Kelly consulted with the club at the start of that process and made clear her intentions to now pursue new opportunities.”

Among Chambers achievements with the side were a fourth-placed FA Women’s Super League finish in 2018 and a Women’s FA Cup Semi-Final appearance.

As well as team accolades, Chambers nurtured the talents of the likes of Fran Kirby, Lily Woodham and Emma Harries at the club alongside countless others with recent breakthrough stars including Tia Primmer and Kiera Skeels.
